History
The origin of bamboo craft in Beppu is traditionally connected with the ancient history of the region. According to local tradition, bamboo basketry in the area began when high-quality bamboo was found near Beppu and used to make baskets. Although this early origin belongs partly to legend, it reflects the long association between Beppu, bamboo, and everyday craft production.
